The guardian of al-Mushaf:
This blog is going to talk about Hafsa bint Omar ibn al-Khattab. Hafsa bint Omar ibn al-Khattab was the daughter of her environment and genealogy. Hafsa was all a woman of flesh and blood. She was previously married to Khunais ibn Qais. He was a pious and devout companion of the prophet. Khunais migrated twice and fought in the battle of Uhud. Unfortunately, Khunais died of his wounds which he had received at Uhud. Khunais left young Hafsa as a young widow.
The passionate father pitied his young daughter:
Seeing his young widow daughter, Omar pitied Hafsa. Omar sought her a husband. Omar offered Hafsa to Abu Bakr and Uthman ibn Affan to marry her. However, they both abstained from marrying the young widow. Omar felt bitter at it. Omar went to the prophet to complain to him about what had happened. Surprisingly, the prophet suggested marrying Hafsa himself. This made Omar very happy. It was a great honor for both Hafsa and omar that prophet mohammad married the young widow. it was a really great privilege that Hafsa became the prophet’s wife. here was the effect of the environment on Hafsa.
Like father, like daughter:
Hafsa bint Omar ibn al-Khattab was truly the daughter of Omar. She inherited his genes. Hafsa was like her father in almost everything. Like Omar, Hafsa was fair and pious. She was a devoted Muslim. Hafsa was daring in defending what she thought was right. She was in an unjust comparison with Aisha bint Abu Bakr. Undoubtedly, she loved prophet Mohammad; and he loved her as a wife. However, Aisha had her special status with prophet mohammad for a lot of reasons. Nevertheless, Hafsa had to struggle a lot to maintain her position in the prophet’s household. Hafsa lived under the pressure of her personal characteristics and the special position of Aisha in the prophet’s heart.
The prophet’s wives were unlike any other women:
The prophet married all those wives for a specific reason. prophet mohammad married those women according to the divine command of allah. Each of the prophet’s wives served as a human example and model for the muslim women and wives in all the coming Muslim generations after the prophet’s. Hafsa bint omar ibn al-Khattab served more as a muslim learner woman who liked to understand and discuss islam. therefore, she did not hesitate to discuss issues with prophet mohammad which she needed to understand; or about which she had her personal point of view. prophet mohammad was never annoyed with this attitude; rather he encouraged it.
Hafsa bint Omar and Aisha bint Abu Bakr:
Though they were different in character, Hafsa bint omar ibn al-Khattab and Aisha served the same objective. islam has come with a comprehensive lifestyle. Therefore, the role of all the prophet’s wives was to record and document almost every second in the prophet’s life. This was for the good of both male and female muslims. Aisha served as a close disciple to the prophet. Hafsa served as a more academic student who liked to discuss and understand the religion of islam. The prophet and his wives were not primarily interested in the joys of marital life. prophet mohammad acted according to the revelation. the prophet’s wives acted as the human recipients of that divine revelation.
Competing to win the prophet’s heart:
prophet mohammad was part and parcel a human messenger. he was one and the same husband to diverse wives. However, he was keen on achieving justice among his wives. Yet, it was natural that he preferred one wife to another. the question with Hafsa bint Omar ibn al-Khattab was not that of beauty, love or attraction. Bint Omar was one of the prophet’s wives to remember. she did her best to please prophet mohammad and learn from him. on his part, omar ibn al-khattab was in a very critical situation. omar knew very well the the pleasure of prophet mohammad was part and parcel Allah’s pleasure. on the other hand, the prophet’s wives were all and equally the mothers of the believers. strict omar wanted his daughter to please and satisfy prophet mohammad.
Hafsa bint Omar, honored twice:
Hafsa bint omar ibn al-Khattab was a great mother of the believers. allah, then prophet mohammad honored her. she married prophet mohammad. fate as well as hafsa’s contemporary muslims honored her by entrusting her to keep the most precious treasure, the whole and complete compiled copy of the holy quran with her.
